The gathering of the faithful in church on New Year's Eve. The service will begin at 9:30pm. ending at midnight with the entrance of the New Year 2014.

The Watch Night Service is where we reflect upon and give thanks for the departing year and pray for the future. Thus watching over one's covenant with God.

Although, the phrase also known as "Freedom's Eve", is also when churches come together to celebrate when President Lincoln issues his preliminary Emancipation Proclamation designating that all persons held as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the U.S., shall be the, thenceforward, and forever free on the 1St day of January 1863. Thus declaring slaves legally free.
